A debilitating storm passed through Paris yesterday morning, but that hasn’t ruined plans for the 47th annual Mark Twain Old Threshers Reunion.
A post on their official Facebook page stated:
Ladies and Gentlemen good news!!! The damage that we suffered from the storms this morning wasn’t enough to stop us. As mentioned before the fish fry tonight has been cancelled but will be rescheduled for a later date. But as for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday activities everything is still INCLUDING THE HORSE PULLS!!!! We have spoke with the horse pullers and they said this isn’t going to stop them from coming out and putting on a great pull. So please everyone come.iut and enjoy the weekend at Old Threshers with us. Only $5 and that will cover you all weekend. We hope to see you!!!!
This ole’ reunion will take place today (July 8) through July 10 at the Paris Fairgrounds. Admission is $5.00 but that will give you access to all weekend’s festivities. Ages 12 and under are free and anyone 16 or younger must have parental supervision.
There will be something for everyone to enjoy this weekend. If you love vintage crafts or antiques, stop by their flea market. Want to camp this weekend? Spots are available!
The Old Threshers food booth will be serving BBQ Pork Steak meals, hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, walking tacos, soda, tea, bottled water, lemonade, and bags of ice.
Today’s main event is the Baby Show starting at 6:00 p.m. and open to all babies, not only Monroe County residents. The categories in the girls’ and boys’ divisions include 0-6 months, 7-12 months, 13-18 months, 19-24 months and 25-35 months. There will also be a Overall Grand Champion and a Lil’ Mr. & Miss Contest for ages 3-5.
Following the baby show will be the royalty contests. Awards will be given to Mrs. Old Threshers (ages 19+), Miss Old Threshers (ages 15-18), Jr. Miss Old Threshers (ages 12-14), and Price & Princess (ages 6-11). Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. for all of these competitions (including the baby show) so don’t be late!
The Miniature Pony Draft Pull starts at 7:00 and is sure to be a crowd pleaser. And at 8:00 p.m., come enjoy some good old country music at the front of the grandstands. Don’t forget your walking taco from the food stand!
Wake up early and head on over to the fairgrounds for breakfast! Served from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Mark Twain Old Threshers will be feeding you their breakfast favorites.
After that, move your seats to the streets because at 10:00 a.m. the parade will take place! Registration will be from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and lineup will start at the latter time. The parade is open to the public and is a perfect family event. Everyone is encouraged to make an appearance. (Hint hint: FREE CANDY).
Following the parade, located on the west side of the fairgrounds from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., will be the antique car and truck show! All cars will be at least 25 years or older. The unique vehicles on display will be staggering for those who love the classics.
Other events for the day will include:
- Tractor games from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (location TBA)
- Horse Shows, provided by the Missouri State Saddle Club Association & Central Missouri Saddle Club, from 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the arena.
- Action at 1:00 p.m. (Handmade Quilt and other items donated.)
- Games for kids including Straw Scramble and Hula Hoop Contest, starting at 1:00, registration before noon.
- Washers tournament at 2:00 p.m. by the big white tent.
- Garden Tractor Pull at 2:00 p.m. on the Pulling Track.
- Antique Classic Tractor Pull at 3:00 p.m. on the Pulling Track.
- Pet show at 3:00 p.m.
- Professional Draft Horse Pull at 5:00
Lastly, the A Side of Country Band will be playing in front of the Grandstands at 8:00 p.m. There is no better way to spend a Saturday with your family. Make sure to come and enjoy!
The last day of Mark Twain Old Threshers is a bit slower, but just as fun. The main event is another Missouri State Saddle Club Association & Central Missouri Saddle Club Horse Show! It will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the area.
